Time #thursdaythoughts

There is an interesting paper I found online The Role of Deliberate Practice in the Acquisition of Expert Performance by Ericsson. This paper talks about focused practice and how different practice styles effect the mind. If you have a spare period of time the 44 pages are well worth reading.

I found this article via a website that states

  • We’re generally more happy when we’re creating compared to consuming.

  • Don’t believe me?

  • Here’s a simple test: next time you watch TV for more than two hours straight, ask yourself afterwards how you feel.

  • Do you feel like you’ve achieved something?

  • Do you feel like that the last two hours were a good investment of your time?

  • People need to spend more time doing creative things, take that time.

  • Everything will benefit.

“One of the chief things which my typical man has to learn is that the mental faculties are capable of a continuous hard activity; they do not tire like an arm or a leg. All they want is change–not rest, except in sleep.” – Arnold Bennett

There is always time; if you minimise distractions, turn off the internet on your phone, in fact turn off your phone, put a do not disturb sign up and maximise concentration. You will be amazed how much you can achieve in the time you set aside to practice if you use focused practice, everyday, without fail.

But how much time should you practice.

Well it depends in the end what you want to achieve.

20 minutes a day - beginners, new players pre grade 1

30 minutes a day - grade 1 - grade 2 standard

45 minutes a day - grade 3 - grade 4 standard

60 minutes a day - grade 5

90 minutes a day - grade 6

2 hours a day - grade 7

3 hours a day - grade 8

What's your dream? What do you want to achieve?

Make it happen.
