A Summer of Key Signatures: Sharps

Chris Caton-Greasley

Updated: Aug 18, 2023

Let's use the summer of 2023 to learn key signatures. In my Academy this summer students are learning scales and key signatures.

The reels I post onto social media will show how to draw the key signatures.

August 3rd: G major Key Signature

F sharp is the last sharp so this is the 7th note. If F# is the 7th then G is the 8th note and it is also the 1st as these notes are the same letter name in a scale, but a different pitch.

This means the key signature is from the G major scale.

August 4th: D major Key Signature

C sharp is the last sharp so this is the 7th note. If C# is the 7th then D is the 8th note and it is also the 1st as these notes are the same letter name in a scale, but a different pitch.

This means the key signature is from the D major scale.
