FANCY a new challenge this New Year? Why not discover your hidden musical talent at one of the best music schools in Tameside!

The Stalybridge Music Academy offers a wide variety of music, academic and drama lessons for students of all ages and experiences.

Situated in the heart of the town centre, the company has grown considerably in recent years with both the student and teacher populations swelling.

They now boast 12 highly experienced and enthusiastic tutors who are well versed in just about every instrument and aspect of music imaginable.

They expanded to their current, more spacious home on Melbourne Street in September 2018, which incorporates 12 dedicated classrooms and a new recording studio.

Managing director Chris Caton-Greasley is an active member of the local community, even running as an independent candidate in the 2016 Tameside local elections.

But with business booming, she took the decision to step away from politics to focus all her efforts and energy into the Music Academy.

She said: “We originally moved to Stalybridge after the Ashton Market fire in 2004 and actually opened up across the road from where we are now as Music Corner.

“At that point we weren’t a fully-fledged music academy. It was a shop which my husband John ran but he unfortunately had to retire after suffering virtual kidney failure.

“I had been teaching in the background up until then and because my strengths lie in teaching rather than shop keeping, that’s when we took the decision to turn the store into the academy.”

It took Chris nearly eight years to fully transform the shop into the successful music academy of today but with increasing enquiries from new students of all ages she knew she had made the right choice.

She continued: “Things were starting to take off, so when our landlord offered us the old Yorkshire Bank building it was a no-brainer for us. It was far more spacious, and the difference was immediate.

“The response we get when people come in and see the professional set-up, we have is very positive. It’s had a massive impact on our client base and we’re still growing today.

“At the moment we have between 225 to 275 students, the youngest being four years old and the oldest 87. We work with people of all experiences as well as students with special needs.”
