Lean on Me: Bill Withers

Chris Caton-Greasley

This is a song used in the singing & vocals program for level 3. You can download the lyrics from this link

This track was sung by Bill Withers and was released in 1972 and was the first single from the album Still Bill. The song fits into the genre of soul and gospel music and carries a motto that helping others when they need it is not just selfless charity it is the best interest of everyone as sooner or later we will all need a helping hand.

The tempo is 75 bpm but you can double this to 15o to keep a tighter pulse in simple quadruple time or 4 beats per bar. It has a laid back feel and fits with a guitar backing or drum and bass.

The original track is in C major and C major mode.
